Rick Robinson - Highland Park, MI: City of Trees premiere by CutTime Simfonica
2 Nov 2014 This classical composition is a prayer for Robinson's hometown of Highland Park, surrounded by Detroit. Good students get caught in the cultural crossfire trying to stay positive around the identity politics around them. Hip-hop and soulful R&B references drive this instrumental dramatization of the hard choices these kids face between learning in the streets and learning in the schools. This performance features the following Detroit Symphony Orchestra musicians who launched CutTime Simfonica in 2010: Geof Applegate, violin I Kim Kaloyanides Kennedy, violin II James VanValkenburg, viola I Caroline Coade, viola II Robert DeMaine, violoncello Rick Robinson, bass The studio release of City of Trees is available at CD Baby, Amazon and iTunes along with Gitcha Groove On!. Robinson often performs these works in Detroit clubs as part of the Classical Revolution Detroit series.
